The first few weeks of school we will use this time to get to know each other. We will discuss rules, routines and the centers in the classroom. Then we will begin introducing letters and numbers. The children will have a letter and number per week. We will explore recognition of the letter, differentiating between upper and lower case, letters sounds, words that begin with that letter and writing that letter. Math skills will include numbers and shapes recognition, dot-to-dot activities, matching, writing numbers, and drawing shapes, etc. The computer programs we use will reinforce the concepts the children are learning on a daily basis.
The children will learn through large and small group instruction. Our classroom will also incorporate learning centers for independent, hands-on learning with art, letters, math, science and other subject areas. The children will learn all the areas needed to begin Kindergarten through independent and teacher instructed activities. From time to time, progress assessments will be sent home for you to review. If you would like to meet to discuss your child’s progress, we can set up a meeting time that meets both of our needs.
Newsletters detailing events and activities will be sent home regularly (also posted on class website). Please be sure to read and sign any papers sent home with your child.
At this age, we strive to make learning a fun hands-on experience. Life skills, such as, manners and respect will be taught and used on a daily basis.

pre-K Fees
Deer Point's Campus opens at 7:05 am. Our Pre-K program gladly cares for children after 7:05. Please remember our VPK program starts promptly at 7:30. Student's that arrive after 7:30 am are marked "tardy".
Multiple tardies are frowned upon, and too many will cause dismissal from our program.
Half day students (7:30-10:45) attend our free Voluntary Pre-K program (VPK). Half day students must be picked up no later than 10:45. There will be a late fee of $1.00 per minute for late pick up's, the fee must be paid prior to student returning to school. I will walk all half day students to the front of the school at 10:45. Parents can wait for their child on the blue benches under the covered walk way.
Enrichment Students (Full day 7:30-2:00) attend our free Voluntary Pre-K program (VPK 7:30-10:45). Enrichment students are charged a fee of $60.00 per week for childcare provided after the VPK hours of 10:45-2:00. If you choose for your child to attend school all day we will give you a pro-rated payment schedule at orientation and answer any questions you may have then.

parent volunteer's
We have an open door policy and welcome you to visit your child at anytime. However, to avoid distractions, we ask that you notify us in advanced so we could prepare the children for a visitor. All visitors must sign in at the front office and be issued a visitor pass before coming to the class. This is for your safety as well as your child. We love to have volunteers from time to time. We will ask for parents to help with field trips, festivals and special class projects.
Please visit http://www.deerpointafit.com for information on how to become involved in our school through A.F.I.T. This is our parent/teacher organization that supports our school so much!
